“DJ Gruff has been called a “proto B-boy,” one of the founding fathers of the Italian scene who helped introduce and develop the art of spinning and scratching, as well as the lingo of rap Italiano.

Massimi rappresentanti della loro citta’ (Palermo) e calde promesse del panorama nazionale, iniziano i primi passi musicali nel 1994, e dopo alcuni anni passati tra tapes, street jams ed esperienze con altri gruppi (Setta del Rimario in primis) sfornano il loro primo demo intitolato ‘Palermo Centrale’, che diviene un piccolo classico, presto ‘sold out’ e tutto’ora richiesto. Dopo diverse partecipazioni e collaborazioni sfornano nel 2003 l’EP intitolato ‘La Cura del Microfono’, prodotto allora acclamato dalla critica e dal panorama hip hop italiano. Il cammino artistico dei due a questo punto non si ferma, ma si rafforza con alcuni featuring di spessore tra i quali ‘Ghetto Blaster’ contenuta su ’60Hz’ di Dj Shocca (che insieme a Stokka & Frank Siciliano compone il team di produzione ‘Unlimited Struggle’), ’19,30 Jungla Urbana’ su Beatgym, ‘Giorni di Sole’ sulla compilation Street Flava 2nd Avenue’ di Radio Italia Network e la recente partecipazione sul disco di Mistaman ‘Parole’. Nel Giugno del 2005 vede la luce il loro primo prodotto ufficiale intitolato “Blocknotes”, 18 tracce che vedono Stokka alle basi e ai testi insieme a Buddy, con un disco che vede i featuring al microfono di Primo (CorVeleno), Dual Shok & Johnny Killa, mentre alle produzioni troviamo Stokka accompagnato da Dj Shocca, Squarta e Frank Siciliano. Il disco sta ricevendo feedback positivi da tutto l’ambiente ed stato positivamente recensito su diverse riviste musicali, nonch programmato da diverse radio.
Al momento i Tasters, dopo diversi nuove collaborazioni, sono al lavoro sul loro nuovo disco che dovrebbe vedere luce nella prima metà del 2007. Restate sintonizzati sulle frequenze dei Tasters…

If you wack Culprate into youtube, you’ll be hit with some pretty spectacular dubstep. Magnificently produced and perfectly executed, Culprate is the name that seems to be on everyones lips at the moment. See for yourself, dubstep idioms such as ’sick, ‘heavy’ and ‘pure filth’ are being spoken out from fans across the globe. One enthusiast even wrote, and i quote, ‘makes me want to collect used chewing gum and build a sculpture of the Russian Prime Minister out of it.’ Not the most conventional of complements, but it sure did make us laugh!

Culprate’s musical intuition started at the age of just 13, when he decided to learn the guitar. By the age of 15, Culprate’s passion and creativity really came into bloom as he was introduced to electronic music production at college. From then on it was just a matter of time before his driven persona and growing production skills resulted in fantastic dub step anthems, tearing their way through clubs around the world.

Having established several releases already on respected dubstep record labels like ‘Dubsaw,’ Culprate has already marked his territory in the dubstep scene. However, he is far from content, admitting recently he would love to get his hands on some hardware to take his production to the next level. And with influences ranging from Squarepusher to Amon Tobin, only Culprate could tell you what sort of production the future holds. But from what we’ve seen already, we know it’ll be good.

■ SOUTHKLAN

Southklan was born in 2004 in Palermo from the pairing of two dj producers: Fef and Andre, class 1983. The duet approaches the musical scene from the mid-nineties, in the area of illegal tekno parties. Influenced by the most eclectic european vibrancies and strong old school reggae and hip hop backgrounds, their dj sets move from jungle to jump-up, creating a mix of sounds rich of bass, extremely dancefloor. Southklan continues to evolve itself from a technical and musical point of view, performing with 4 Deck set , ranging from Drum&Bass to Dubstep with Electro influences. The duet has performed side by side with artists like dj Hype, Aphrodite, ShyFx, Kenny Ken, mc $pyda, SlipznDapz, Dirtyphonics, Ed Rush, Congo Natty,General Levy, Deekline, Benny Page, DJ Fresh, Boj Lucki, Audio, Crookers, Blatta&Inesha, Addictive-Tv, Modulate, Cyberfunk, FrankSentUs, Stokka&MadBuddy, Colle Der Fomento and Co’Sang.
